Each church year there are 4-5 months that have a fifth Sunday. Since the fall of 2022, as part of our lay-led ministry, we have decided to use these Sundays to offer an alternative to traditional worship. In lieu of holding a service, either in-person or on Zoom, we organize a group service project that can be done together instead.
Our primary objective is to weave together our vision of sharing resources, effort, and time to support the broader community while connecting and having fun with one another.
Anyone can suggest and organize a project. Do you have an idea for one?

Greeting friends! Please Join us for our 5th Sunday Service Project as we come together for a meaningful morning of learning, discussion, and service.

In the spirit of community care, we are planning our 4th Hollywood Neighborhood Cleanup for this last Sunday of May. Our goal is to help make the area a safer, cleaner, more pleasant area to visit and build community spirit among our members
5th Sunday Day of Service: Supply Drive for 13 Salmon Shower Project
Our project for March 2026 is a supply drive for the 13 Salmon Shower Project. We will gather at 10:30 on Sunday, March 29th at the Center for Positive Aging for snacks, song, & fellowship. Project Coordinator, Larry Burt will collect your supply drive contributions. See the details below for more information about needed items.
5th Sunday Day of Service: Clothing Drive for Rose Haven + Solidarity Lunch
In months where there are five Sundays, we gather together in community and take some kind of social justice action in the world. The fifth Sunday in November 2025 falls on Thanksgiving Weekend. Our action project has two parts: Winter Clothing and Holiday card drive & a solidarity lunch gathering at the Hollywood Laughing Planet.
5th Sunday Day of Service: Pride Celebration: Drag Story Hour
Celebrate Pride with Wy'east UU! We are sponsoring an All Ages Drag Story Hour Event on Sunday, June 29th from 10:30 - 12:00 in the Hollywood Neighborhood. Join us for an all ages event that, in addition to a Drag Story Hour with Wilder Bloom and Glow Merrygold, will include all ages family friendly crafts and opportunities to connect to community.
5th Sunday Day of Service: Trans Day of Visibility Community Picnic
This month we are sponsoring a Trans Day of Visibility Potluck Picnic at Wilshire Park for the trans and non-binary community and their allies. The National Trans Day of Visibility is March 31st and in these times it is important to find ways to demonstrate a community spirit of resistance and resilience.
5th Sunday Day of Service: Supply Drive for Lilac Meadows Family Shelter & Festive Community Gathering
As part of our lay-led ministry, we gather on 5th Sundays for a service project in lieu of holding a service, either in-person or on Zoom. Our December 2024 project will again be a supply drive to support Our Just Future and the Lilac Meadows Family Shelter. Details will be forthcoming about their needs.
5th Sunday Day of Service: 3rd Annual Hollywood Neighborhood Clean Up
We are planning our 3rd annual Hollywood Neighborhood Cleanup for this last Sunday of September. Come dressed for the weather and join members Larry Burt & Diane Ingle who are again coordinating with SOLV to provide supplies. Our goals are to help make the area a safer, cleaner, more pleasant area to visit and to help build community spirit among our members. Volunteers will pick up litter in the Hollywood neighborhood business area surrounding our meeting place.
5th Sunday Day of Service: Pride Celebration: Drag Story Hour with Kisses!
Celebrate Pride with Wy’east Unitarian Universalist Congregation with a Drag Story Hour Event! We invite all young people, in age or heart, to join us for this delightful, fun and love-centered story hour featuring Kisses, the “2023 Vancouver Entertainer of the year,” on Sunday, June 30th from 10:30 to Noon. This celebratory event will feature some Pride-oriented crafts and a sweet story hour with Kisses plus lots of belly laughs! All are welcome, please join us!
5th Sunday Day of Service: Supply Drive and Easter Baskets for Rahab’s Sisters
Each church year there are 4-5 months that have a 5th Sunday. As part of our lay-led ministry, we use these Sundays to offer an alternative to traditional worship. In lieu of holding a service, either in-person or on Zoom, we will be organizing a group service project we can do together instead. We are assembling Easter Baskets for our Sustained Partner Rahab's Sisters for their their Easter Dinner!

The final day of the year falls on the 5th Sunday of December 2023. As part of our lay-led ministry, we gather on 5th Sundays for a service project in lieu of holding a service, either in-person or on Zoom. Our December 2023 project will be a supply drive to support Our Just Future and the Lilac Meadows Family Shelter.
5th Sunday Day of Service: 2nd Annual Hollywood Neighborhood Clean Up
Join us for our 2nd Annual SOLV Fall Cleanup in the Hollywood Neighborhood. We will gather at 10:30 outside the Center for Positive Aging and finish by Noon – Rain or Shine! Members Larry Burt & Diane Ingle have again coordinated with SOLV to provide supplies. Our goals are to help make the area a safer, cleaner, more pleasant area to visit and to help build community spirit among our members. Volunteers will pick up litter in the Hollywood neighborhood business area surrounding our meeting place.
5th Sunday Day of Service: Center for Positive Aging Summer Spruce Up
This month we will be supporting the Center for Positive Aging with some sprucing up and cleaning of the space we share with them. We will be meeting on the back side of the Senior Center at 10:30AM and will be doing general cleaning tasks that will be finalized early next week. Work stops at Noon.

In lieu of holding a service, either in-person or on Zoom, we will be organizing a group service project we can do together instead.
Join us Sunday, April 30th for last 5th Sunday Day of Service in this church year! Wy'east Members have partnered with SOLVE to do a neighborhood cleanup around the Lilac Meadows Family Shelter.
5th Sunday Day of Service: Supply Drive & Friendship Cards for Rahab’s Sisters
For this "5th-Sunday's Day of Service," we will support one of our sustaining community partners, Rahab’s Sisters. To learn more about Rahab’s Sisters. If you are able, please join us and make Friendship Cards together (we'll have some supplies to make cards)! Bring your own lunch and we'll make a picnic of it inside!

Join us on October 30th for our Inaugural 5th Sunday Day of Service. Wy'east Members Diane Ingle and Larry Burt have partnered with SOLV to do a neighborhood cleanup in the Hollywood Neighborhood. Our goals are to help make the area a safer, cleaner, more pleasant area to visit and to help build community spirit among our members. Volunteers will pick up litter in the Hollywood neighborhood business area within a four block radius surrounding our meeting place.
