Our Ministry

Wy’east UU is a shared ministry.

Our quarter-time minister, Rev. Leslie Becknell Marx, leads one service most months and also often contributes elements to one other service each month.

Our lay-led Worship Committee is charged to create a varied, meaningful, robust, and rooted-in-spirit calendar of worship services. We are guided by the mission of our congregation and the values of Unitarian Universalism.

We collaborate to bring a variety of guest ministers, other speakers, and special programs on the remaining Sundays. In the 2025-26 church year, these include regular appearances by Guest Minister Rev. Stephani Skalak, with her focus on Personal Spiritual Practice, as well as a series of speakers and special collections related to our Social Justice focus for the year,  “We are Stronger Together.”

Our Worship Services

We plan worship services that are rooted in the rhythms of the year and might be inspired by:

  • Religious Holidays (we draw inspiration from an array of faith traditions such as Easter, Rosh Hoshanah, Imbolc, etc.);
  • Commemorative Days of Note ( Martin Luther King Jr. Day,Trans Day of Visibility , Earth Day, etc.);
  • Seasonal Changes (Solstice, Equinox, etc.); and
  • UU Traditions (Flower Communion, Water Communion, etc.)

We don’t just hear from ministers or professional speakers. We invite lay speakers from a wide range of backgrounds and lived experiences such as educators, chaplains, activists, organizers, artists, caregivers and more to share their wisdom and inspiration.

In months when there are five Sundays, which happens 4 or 5 times each year, we will typically gather for a service project rather than a worship service. Various members take charge of planning these projects.
