Greeting friends! Please Join us for our 5th Sunday Service Project as we come together for a meaningful morning of learning, discussion, and service.
Each church year there are 4 months that have a 5th Sunday. As part of our lay-led ministry, we will be using these Sundays to offer an alternative to traditional worship. In lieu of holding a service, either in-person or on Zoom, we will be organizing a group service project we can do together instead.
- Documentary Film Screening + Discussion: “No Country for Mothers”
- Supply Drive for Birthday Boxes for Lilac Meadows Family Shelter
We’ll begin with a screening of the newly released and powerful documentary “No Country for Mothers,” followed by a guided discussion. This remarkable film explores the gap between our nation’s stated support for American mothers and the reality of the societal structures, resources, and policies that often fall short of meeting their needs. The run time of the film is 78 minutes and we are planning a 30-45 minute discussion after. This film is only available for viewing in community settings and is not on any streaming platforms.

Following the discussion, we’ll spend a few minutes assembling Birthday Boxes for the children at Lilac Meadows Family Shelter. These special boxes help families and shelter staff recognize and celebrate birthdays, especially children’s birthdays, with joy and dignity. We are asking movie attendees who are able to bring items for the Birthday Boxes, but most importantly, bring yourselves for the movie, discussion, and assembly!!
Anyone who would not be able to attend the 5th Sunday, but would like to contribute to the boxes, could bring donations to Anne Wagner on 3rd Sunday, or to Linda Macpherson, Sage Biemer, or Ron Thurston during the month of August.
Materials for Birthday Boxes:
- Boxed cake mixes with a can or box of frosting/frosting mix
- Sprinkles &/or cake writing gels
- Birthday candles
- Balloons
- Streamers
- New, unused birthday cards for children
- Or any other similar birthday celebration supplies you’d like to donate. Your generosity will help make a child’s birthday feel truly special.
We hope you’ll join us for this meaningful opportunity to learn, reflect, and serve together.
Please meet at the Center for Positive Aging at 10:30 am.
There will not be a regular worship service. This is an in-person only event.
