Annual Summer Celebration - Potluck in the Park

Come celebrate our annual Interdependence Day-Summer Potluck!

We’ll meet at Creston Park, Area B, from 10:30 am to 2:00 pm.

What to bring: your pot luck dish offering, camp chairs, your favorite beverages, sun protection (hats, sun screen, sun glasses), and games (volleyball, hula hoops)! Paper plates, plastic utensils and cups will be available, but you may certainly bring your own eating and drinking supplies.

This is an In-Person Only Event. There will not be a worship service at the Community for Positive Aging, and this gathering will not be available to attend via Zoom.

Aging Attitudes -- Kera Magarill, Behavior Specialist and Member at West Hills UU Fellowship

Kera Magarill is a behavioral specialist in Washington County serving older adults and a member at West Hills UU Fellowship. She joins us to talk to us about positive aging beliefs and healthy aging. She brings a wealth of experience serving older adults to combat loneliness, isolation and creating spaces of connection and belonging. She also brings a wealth of knowledge about ageism, myths about aging and steering us toward positive aging beliefs.

Out of the Margins and Into the Stories: A Brief History of LGBTQ Literature -- Andrea Carlisle, Author

On this Portland Pride weekend, author Andrea Carlisle will take us on a journey through some of this history of LGBTQ literature. Andrea will explore the pathway queer lit has taken — from volumes featuring same sex love that had to be tucked away under lock and key to lengthy online lists, available to millions, of favorite novels featuring LGBTQ characters. Not only shifts in governmental policies led to this enormous shift in acceptance, but novelists with determination and vision have contributed greatly as well. Who were these writers, who are they, and what are the books that have lit the way?

Running on Faith -- QuianaDenae Perkins, UUA Congregational Life Staff

In the last year, QuianaDenae became a runner. And, in the last year, she has also completed the requirements for a preliminary ministerial fellowship. Both actions, becoming a runner and becoming a minister, came with hard and heart lessons. Join us as she shares what she has learned while running on our faith.
