As we begin a new “church year,” we each bring water from our lives—waters that have traveled through joy and sorrow, change and renewal, solitude and connection.
This month, we’ll reflect on the mystery of interdependence.
Water offers us a powerful spiritual lesson about interdependence. It does not stay in one place or belong to any one of us. The water that sustains each of us is part of an ancient, ever-moving cycle—falling as rain, flowing through rivers, gathering in oceans, nourishing plants, moving through animal and human bodies, and returning again to the world.
In our annual ritual of Water Communion, we bring water from places that have shaped us and pour it together. As we gather our waters together today, we are invited to remember that we, too, are part of something larger: sustained by one another and by the living systems that sustain us all.
Please bring water from your summer: from the tap or hose at your house, a local or distant river, lake, or sea. We will each pour our water into a shared vessel during our service. And we’ll have water for you if you forget.
All of our services are Multi-Platform and you have the option of attending either In-Person or on Zoom.
In person we meet for worship at the Community for Positive Aging, 1820 NE 40th Ave., Portland, OR.
