Pop Culture In Today's Muslim World

Date

In 1438 years of history, Muslims developed different forms of entertainment in the various parts of the world in which they have lived. This talk by Dr. Shatha Almutawa, an assistant professor of religious studies at Willamette University, looks at contemporary popular culture in Muslim majority countries and the United States, from poetry and fiction to music, television, theater and art. Meet the heartthrobs of Egyptian cinema, the stars of Turkish soap operas, the singers and dancers of Lebanese rock and roll, the superheroes of Bangladeshi comic books, the authors of Saudi Arabian bestsellers, and the spoken word poets of America.
