Sermon Archive

Join us for a "traditional" Christmas Eve Service at 5pm.  This will be an intergenerational service filled with stories and singing and candlelight.  Service led by Wy'east Members.

The darkest day of the year happens on December 21st.  Wy'east members reflect this Sunday on their personal connections to the earth and the cycles of the seasons.  Join us for this exploration of the deep roots in nature and connection to the land we share.  The service will include original poetry and narrative reflection from four Wy'east members

Here’s a sermon that has a bit of everything in it: quails, cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions, and garlic. It even has the Great Garloo!  Who? Good question! Our children will once again be presenting the Winter Pageant, which features them in adorable costumes acting out the solstice stories of eight different religious traditions. This Wy’east creation celebrates how we all find meaning in the darkness of winter, no matter which stories are told and which holidays we observe. This pageant coordinated by Anders Liljeholm and other religious educators.

The title comes from a debate between two rabbis about how candles on the menorah should be lit on the eight nights of Hanukkah: light one each evening, or start with all eight burning then extinguish them one by one? Rev. Craig Moro will invite us to ponder such “fires of the spirit”, be they large or small

Each autumn, we pause to give thanks for the food we gather from the earth. In this service, we’ll hear stories from four of our members about a loaf of bread, how the bread connects to their personal history, and the meaning it holds for them. Then, during social hour, they’ll share these loaves with all of us. This service coordinated by long-time Wy’east member, Anders Liljeholm

For many of us, Thanksgiving is the only meal each year for which we “say grace”.  Is this because it’s the only time we eat turkey, or is there another reason? This morning, Rev. Craig Moro will describe a meal without either turkey or grace that nearly ended in disaster.  We will also dedicate our Joys and Sorrows time to thanking the many people who dedicate themselves to making the Wy’east experience happen!

This second Sunday in November falls on Veterans' Day (formerly Armistice Day).  Wy'east members reflect on military service and faith, considering questions like how do they reconcile their liberal faith with military service?  What is it like to be a person of liberal faith while serving?  Patriotism:  Why isn't it considered a "liberal" value in public discourse? and What called you to serve?

It’s time to think some more about what lethal firearms mean to those who feel a need to carry them, and what they mean to the rest of us.  Rev. Moro will share his perspective as a former gun owner, hunter, and past member of the NRA.

Please join us for our 3rd Black Lives of UU Service, organized in response to a call in April 2017 from the BLUU Organizing Collective.  Many Wy'easters have worked together to understand the materials recommended by them and to create a service that answers their mandate to lift up black voices. Together, we'll listen to those voices as we contemplate what it might mean to show up for black lives, both within our congregation and in the wider world.  Service led by Wy'east Members.
